As you probably know, a scar is a mark that remains after a wound heals. In ideal situations, they’re smooth, flat, and blend in with your surrounding skin. But a scar can be highly visible and even unattractive due to its size or location. Your age, nutrition and genetic make-up can also play a role in the appearance of scars.

Typically, there are two types of scars: hypertrophic and keloid. Although both are raised, hypertrophic scars are confined within the boundaries of the wound. Keloid scars extend beyond the original wound into surrounding skin areas. MEDERMA® may be used on both kinds of scars.
